Vice President, Arc Mohammed Namadi Sambo has said that Nigeria will fully utilise its abundant renewable energy resources to enhance electricity supply across the country. The Vice President stated this yesterday, in his office at the State House, Abuja, when he met with a delegation from Total Nigeria Ltd. Arc Sambo, who noted that the global trend in power generation was efficient utilisation of renewable energy, particularly solar energy, of which Nigeria has in abundance, stressed that the President Jonathan administration, was doing everything possible to ensure it meets Nigeria’s electricity demand. According to him “the issue of power is one of the cardinal point of this administration and anything that will increase the supply of power in Nigeria will be deeply welcomed and the administration will do everything to ensure that it succeeds”. The Vice President commended Total for its determination to ensure utilisation of Nigeria’s solar energy as a source of electricity generation, adding that “it is impressive this has been handled in the highest corporate level.” He therefore assured them of government’s commitment to ensure the noble objective was achieved. Earlier Total’s Executive Director and the leader of the delegation, Mr. Olubunmi Obembe in his presentation said the Company in its bid to become a major global player in the solar energy market, acquired US based SunPower, a world leader in solar power operation. Present at the meeting was the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Dr. Joseph Dawha, who represented the Minister of Petroleum Resources. Other members of the Total Nigeria Ltd delegation included Merve Canarelli , Mina Abiodun and Oreh Onwuka Patrick.
