The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr. Sam Amadi, has said that power firms operating in the country owe NERC a total of 3 billion naira.

According to The Punch, he said the debt is due to revenue shortfalls and other challenges confronting operators in the Nigerian electricity supply industry, but noted that the commission was not in a haste to recover the funds.

Amadi said this on Wednesday in Abuja at a press briefing organised by the commission to refute reports that NERC board members had proposed to share 2.7 billion naira as severance benefit when they retired from service.

This is also comes as the chairman said that the commission’s website and emails of its senior officials were hacked into on Monday by unknown persons.
