Black Outs to Continue Due to Funding Gaps in power Sector – Reps

Nigerias-national-assembly

The House of Representatives said on Sunday that funding challenges and low power generating capacity had affected the ability of distribution companies to improve on the supply of electricity to Nigerians, two years after the privatisation of the sector.

An ad hoc committee of the House is investigating the regulatory role of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the activities of distribution companies.

The Chairman of the committee, Mr. Babajimi Adekoge, noted that the evidence before the committee had shown a “huge funding gap” and unstable power generating capacity as major reasons blackouts could continue for a few more years.
