Consumers to Determine their Bills with New Pre-Paid Meters – PHED

The Port-Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED), has said that as the new electricity tariff comes into effect on Monday February 1, customers would be the ones to determine their final bills based on their actual consumption.

Speaking at a quarterly press conference in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, the Chief Executive Officer, PHED, Mr. Jay McCoskey, said there would be the introduction of energy efficient appliances by the company, which would ensure that customers’ actual consumption would be the determining factor on the bills that customers pay.
He also noted that this was the reason why the company would intensify its mass metering program, as studies have shown that with pre-paid meters, electricity users consume between 12-15 % less electricity than those using post-paid meters.
