The Delta State House of Assembly has refuted allegations it was embarking on a witch-hunt following allegations government officials were involved in fraud, resulting in the abandonment of the independent power plant project in Oghara.

House Leader, Tim Owhefere, said the House would instead ensure strict reliance on the rule of law and most importantly the right to fair hearing during a probe of the scandal.

“It was never intended as a probe initiative against any individual,”

Owhefere who doubles as the Chairman, House Committee on Information, said.

He reaffirmed the commitment and resolve of the House to be fair and just in all matters of concern to Deltans.

It is reported the contract for the project was initially awarded at N21,7 billion but reviewed to N23,2 billion in 2010.

It has emerged the contracting firm, DAV-NOTCH, has been paid N19,8 billion for the project.
