Imo Assembly Tackles EDDC Over Epileptic Power Supply

Members of Imo State House of Assembly, IMHA, have asked the management of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, to furnish the legislature with the revenue accruing to it from the state.

The lawmakers equally demanded for proof of payment of the commensurate tax for the monies so earned.

The directive followed a motion brought before his colleagues by the member representing Aboh Mbaise state constituency, Chief Mike Iheanaetu, on the hardship hoisted on the citizenry by EEDC.

Presenting the matter during plenary, Chief Iheanaetu wondered why the company should continue to subject the citizens to untold hardship without qualms.

“The company recklessly bill consumers for service not rendered. The Company has so far refused, failed or neglected to provide pre-paid meters to consumers. We cannot continue in this fashion,” Iheanaetu said.

Presenting the position of the House, during an interface with the management of EEDC, the Speaker, Chief Acho Ihim, expressed displeasure over the inexplicable absence of the Managing Director, MD, and Chief Executive Officer of the Company, at the parley.

In dismissing the Company’s representative at the parley, Chief Ihim directed the MD of EEDC to appear before the House during the next sitting.

“EEDC must state how much they make from Imo State and taxes paid. If they fail to present the facts as demanded, we will invoke the provisions of the relevant laws to get them arrested,” Ihim said.
