The attention of Yola Electricity Distribution Company has been drawn over a misleading and nonfactual claim that YEDC is over billing its customers, which was published in the Nation newspaper on September 18, 2016 and Daily Trust, Friday, September 16, 2016.
Yola Electricity Distribution Company wishes to make it clear that the report is misleading and inappropriate with what is obtainable. YEDC complies fully with all regulations and policies of Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission including metering our customers across board, while we apply the NERC approved estimated billing methodology to our non-metered customers.
Also, it is important to note that customers within our franchise area are currently experiencing significant improvement in power supply between 18 to 24 hours on daily basis, unlike what was obtainable in the month of June when the supply is between 2 to 3 hours whereby our estimated billing was from N1, 000 to N1, 500. Currently there is an improvement, rehabilitation of distribution network and re-connection of areas affected by insurgency in the North East. The writer lacks merit on the basis that we are currently in recession and customers should not be charged for energy consumed.
YEDC operates under the reviewed tariff regime tagged “MYTO 2015”approved by NERC which came into effect on February 1st, 2016 without compromising our corporate integrity and responsibilities. It’s pertinent to know that YEDC operates an open door policy and engages its customers as stakeholders in the electricity distribution chain through our various customer engagement forums as well as our social media platforms.
Any aggrieved customer is advised to channel his or her complains/concern through the appropriate quarter rather than writing malicious story that lacks any iota of truth. It’s imperative to note that metering our customers will generate more revenue to the company, hence our resolve to prioritise metering all our customers.
