BPE Lauds Kaduna Electric on Infrastructure Upgrade

The Bureau of Public Enterprises has commended the efforts of Kaduna Electric on the deployment of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to capture existing and new customers into its data base.

The Deputy Director, Post Privatization, Mallam Rabiu Abubakar Abba, made the commendation when he led a team from the BPE on an inspection visit to Kaduna Electric.

He said “We appreciate the level of cooperation granted our team since our arrival yesterday. We have visited many of your service centers within Kaduna and injection substations as well as some Area offices and we have seen the level of transformation and upgrades undertaken by Kaduna Electric. We commend your efforts and we believe you can do more in other areas not yet rehabilitated both within Kaduna and outside Kaduna”.

He further said this particular visit is in fulfillment of the requirement of the provision of section 271 and 272 of the performance agreement where we monitor, evaluate your progress and challenges. We gave a template and we have noted the challenges just as presented by the Managing Director

On the Challenges he said, “I believe government is aware of most of these challenges and they are doing a lot on them. Very soon the government will come out with a position particularly on the debts owed Discos by Government Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as well as issues of liquidity bedeviling the sector.

Also commending the effort of Kaduna Electric on the use GIS for enumeration of its customers Mr. John Olalekan Joseph, who is also the Deputy Director Enterprises of BPE said. “The presentation that has been made is quite revealing. I am very happy about your GPS effort for enumeration, if all the discos are deploying technology like this I think we are beginning to move forward in Nigeria. I believe if this GPS thing is deployed in all the discos then these commercial losses are going to be brought down significantly.”

In his welcome address, the Managing Director Chief Executive of Kaduna Electric, Engr. Garba Haruna thanked the BPE team for the visit; I hope you had a good site visit. You are part and parcel of Kaduna Electric because the core investors of Kaduna Electric owned sixty percent and government owned fourty percent of the company and representative of government on the board of Kaduna Electric is BPE. The whole process of privatization is to reduce losses and increase efficiency in the power sector.
