To bring into force political will to develop sustainable alternative to power in the country, House of Representatives yesterday pushed for the creation of a commission to facilitate the country’s desire to explore the adoption of bio fuels as alternative energy source.
Debating a bill by Hon. Kingsley Chinda seeking the setting up of the commission to be known as Bio-fuels Energy Regulatory Commission, the lawmakers said the setting up of the commission would require yanking off of utilization of bio-fuels as alternative energy source from National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
The lawmakers also resolved to work towards the establishment of Bio-fuels Research Agency as an organ of government to quicken researches into the area.
In his comments, Chinda said the adoption of bio-fuels would minimise pollution and encourage job creation as many Nigerians would take to agriculture, maintaining that crops such as cassava and sugar cane were useful in the generation of the alternative energy source.
