For the second time in one month, President Muhammadu Buhari’s nominee for the position of chairman of the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Professor Akintunde Akinwande, refused to present himself for Senate screening once again on Wednesday,
The United States-based professor of engineering had once failed to appear before the Senate for screening which was interpreted as his rejection of the appointment from the President Buhari led government. Then, the presidency swiftly denied the reports and claimed that Akinwande was simply trying to formalise his resignation from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, (MIT) where he works.
However yesterday at a second screening session convened by the Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe-led committee, Akinwande was absent again. Against all the damage control mechanisms of the presidency, this time around, the professor allegedly informally told the committee that he was not available for the job and won’t come for it.
