The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) said it is installing meters for Maitama, Mpape and other areas in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from its 90,000 meter procurement to end estimated billing complaints by customers, Daily Trust reports.
Speaking at a Forum organised for customers in Abuja, the Regional Manager, FCT Central, Mr. Mohammed Ihuza, said metering all customers was in the best interest of AEDC.
He noted that the recent commissioning of the Kukwaba transmission substation had helped in improving power supply within the city centre while freeing up more electricity from the Katampe substation to power Mpape and environs.
However, the official said the firm was faced with challenges of electricity theft, meter bypass, vandalism and low response to payment of bills. He said the DisCos got only 25% of the payment while the upstream generation had 75% and urged customers to pay bills promptly.
