Energy Theft Attracts Penalties, AEDC Warns Customers

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has warned customers to desist from stealing electricity as the action attracts huge regulatory penalties, report Daily Trust.

The Distribution Company (DisCo) said this recently in Asokoro, Abuja, during its customer forum for electricity users in the area.

The Regional Manager, FCT Central, Mr Mohammed Ihuza, while explaining part of the penalties, said customers who are caught stealing energy would have their bills backdated and charged in accordance with the rules provided by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

He said: “Our Revenue Protection Unit is legal and recognised by NERC which gave us a timetable on how our losses must be reduced and at the end, we will be assessed if we meet the timeline. That is a yardstick to continue our business.
