Bayelsa State Government has awarded two contracts in the power sector as part of its ongoing Operation Light Up Bayelsa programme, Vanguard reports.
The Bayelsa State contracts are for the construction of a power line between Sagbama and Ekeremor and the establishment of a five megawatts station at Ebedebiri in Sagbama LGA. The Commissioner for Power, Partner Jim-Ogbolo, announced this while briefing newsmen after the 82nd State Executive Council, SEC, meeting in Yenagoa.
According to him, the council took the decision based on its desire to connect all the communities in the state to the national grid in line with the massive rural electrification project it embarked on.
He said: “The government is very passionate about connecting all our communities to the national grid. We want sufficient power in all nooks and crannies of the state and this is mainly for the purpose of industrialization which the governor is seriously pursuing.”
