Fire Destroys TCN Power Facility in Enugu


A 30MVA 132/33kV power transformer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), located at the Nkalagu transmission substation in Enugu state has been damaged by fire, Leadership reports.

The GM Public Affairs, TCN, Mrs. Mbah said in a statement that the Old 30MVA power transformer which had already been earmarked for replacement in line with TCN’s Transmission Rehabilitation and Expansion Programme (TREP), was unfortunately gutted by fire, Friday afternoon. TCN said that its engineers are working to quickly restore supply through the second 30MVA transformer in the substation.

The statement further noted that NIPP is also currently installing a new 60MVA, 132/33kV power transformer in the substation. TCN will discuss with NIPP to fast-track the installation to further boost the station’s capacity. TCN apologized for every inconvenience caused to electricity consumers in parts of Nsukka, Ihiamufu, Afikpo and Ezilo Water Works.
