The Kaduna Electric has announced plans to deploy 50,000 meters to Sokoto state by the first quarter of 2018.
The Managing Director of the Company, Engineer Garba Haruna, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen shortly after commissioning of the Sokoto Forum office for the electricity complaints by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission Wednesday.
He noted that the company would soon start taking an enumeration of its customers across the four states of their coverage.
This he said was to ensure that all their customers were registered and adequately metered in order to pay the right price for the energy that they consumed.
On their plan to improve the supply of electricity to Sokoto, he said the company was doing its best to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity to the state.
According to him, a 60mva transformer had been installed in preparation of the 330kv line to be laid directly to Sokoto from Kainji.
The Commissioner, Consumer Affairs Division of NERC, Dr. Moses Arigu said the essence of the Forum office was to ensure customers get value for their money, assuring that members of the forum would treat complains by customers daily and objectively.
“It is important to note that an electricity customer must first report any grievance to the customer complaints unit of the distribution company before bringing such unresolved complaint to the forum if it is not resolved at CCU level,” he explained
He further remarked that “a complainant who is not satisfied with the action taken by the company and the forum can appeal to the commission for consideration”.
Dr. Arigu also said that the forum has the power to reverse undue charges and prevent unfit business practices as well as provide the basis for compensating an aggrieved party.
The Secretary of the forum, Alhaji Ashiru Abdu Na-Abdu assured customers of speedy consideration of their complaints.
