United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and in Collaboration with the Energy Commission of Nigeria, the Nigeria Federal Ministry of Environment (FME) and the National Centre for Energy Efficiency and Conservation (NCEEC) has started the implementation of a project to promote energy efficiency in Nigeria. The overall objective of the project is to improve the energy efficiency of series of end-use appliances (lighting, air conditioner, refrigerators, fans, heating equipment, etc.) used in Nigeria through policy and legislative instruments and demand-side management programme. The project is aimed at reducing energy demand. The project will help to increase access to electricity in Nigeria and at the same time mitigate the emission of greenhouse gases resulting from energy generation.
