The Director General of the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN), Engr. Rueben Okeke, said on Thursday that Nigeria currently has over 22 million unregistered electricity consumers
Okeke made the disclosure while speaking on the topic ‘Science and technology challenges in a depressed economy’ at the 4th Professor Barth Nnaji Biennial Lecture Series organised by Enugu State University of Science and Technology, in Agbani, Enugu.
Okeke explained that the country loses a huge amount of revenue due to the large number of unregistered electricity consumers. Citing records from the National Bureau of Statistics, he noted that out of about 28 million households in the country 5.2 million were registered electricity consumers while 22.8 million have not been captured. The implication of the development was what he described as ‘a great loss of revenue’.
