The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has launched the installation of 15,000 meters more for customers under its distribution zones. This exercise marks the second phase of the company’s free-meter deployment exercise in the state. This is coming after the first phase of the metering, which was launched in June last year with 15, 000 meters installed at various residences in Kabuga area.
At the launch of the installation exercise which held at Mundubawa road in Nassarawa Local Government Area of the state, the Chief Operating Officer of the KEDCO, Mr Raul Singh disclosed that the distribution company had procured up to 65,000 meters for free deployment to electricity consumers in its franchise areas.
The COO explained that considering the constant occurrence of overbilling and electricity debt issues and despite apprehension by KEDCO’s customers about the new meters, the company deemed it necessary to deploy them in order to ensure equitable assessment of energy consumption by customers, stressing the company wants to ensure that customers only paid for what they have consumed.
