At the opening of a recent House of Representatives investigative hearing, Babatunde Fashola, the Minister of Power, Works and Housing reiterated his commitment towards unlocking 12,000MW of power generation achieved by the present administration, Business Day reports.
The Minister explained that out of 125 TCN power projects inherited by the present administration, 85 projects were stalled by court cases, environmental or community-related crises while the 40 viable power projects for implementation were presented to the Committee during the 2016 budget defence.
“For the things that I know, TCN completed 10 transmission projects, expanding transformer capacity which is the heart and meat of power distribution and these projects go from Daura to Ikeja to FCT in Apo to Ejigbo, to Akwa, to Enugu to Akungba and to Suleja and there are many more.”
The Minister who affirmed that TCN capacity, generation capacity and distribution inherited by the present administration have drastically improved, however acknowledged that the sector is yet to be where it ought to.
